Today I want to speak about admitting mistakes.

I am proud to say that I don't mind admitting I did something wrong. Making mistakes and learning from them is a big part of being human.

Unfortunately, that is something a lot of people struggle with. They feel ashamed and think their social standing will decline in some way when they admit they were wrong.

They are not completely off though. The stupider someone is the less they understand this entire concept of "learning from mistakes" and if your entire community is filled with idiots, you have to hide those mistakes to still be respected in it.

Sometimes people take this so far, that they will die on a hill although they know it is built out of trash.

What is just as equally important is having someone to tell you that you are making a mistake - or at least understanding the signs when someone doesn't agree with you.

Today I made a mistake.

I was being harsh to someone who didn't deserve it. I felt bad afterwards, but thought that maybe I just wasn't used to being this way and that is way I felt bad.

When I talked to someone about it, they shared their perspective which didn't agree with mine. It made me hesitate and start questioning things.

I made the decision to look at the situation from the other persons perspective and due to that gained valuable insight on the situation, that made me realize I was wrong.

Did I feel good after realizing that? No, obviously not. Everyone wants to be in the right and have the feeling that they are doing something good or something others would appreciate.

I did feel a lot better though after I apologized to the person I treated badly.

I don't expect them to accept my mistake or to acknowledge it in any way, but I hope they are feeling better knowing that they were right and I admitted it.

Thinking that they would feel better because of that, makes me feel better about hurting them in the first place. Ideally, I wouldn't have made the mistake at all, but unfortunately no one can change the past and we all have to live with our actions.

But we can try to make everyone feel better by admitting our mistakes.
